Reading all these accolades of the Suzuki banger...
I got my 1999 LS 650 with 507 km on the last day of this past August. 2052 km is the odometer reading today, just came back from a short 50 km ride with a buddy. Cannot keep up with him, on a BMW 1200R, but this is his problem...
Slowly, I am making my way into the innards of the bike, with the help from people on the web and this group as well. So far backfiring problem was improved somewhat, although not completely, by this white washer trashing. Last Friday night, I put in a #147 main jet, modified intake portion of the air box and yesterday I followed up with exhaust. So far drilling through the four rivets, which remained in place, and drilling 1/4 dia hole in the baffle deep inside produced a nice, deep sound. I think all these stories about Supertrapps are cash traps, unless optics are the preference here. In the end, is it not the amount of back pressure the exhaust provides to balance the engine gas flow? Straighten me up, please if required. To this end, the bike improved noticeably, it revvs more readily and lower for a given speed and feels more agile. Top range I am not sure about yet, as I got it to 120 km/h only.
The changes I made brought back some backfiring, which will have to be dealt with.
I love riding this thumper, the last two bikes I rode were: DB 200 and a K 500, but it was a different story...
Now to continue here with the winter coming, will require some courage and an electric vest if not more. Will start installing a socket to plug the vest and I am thinking about getting heated grips (my friend has them).
Take care you all.
